about

The "gold diggers" are back. Fans had to wait far too long for a new album from Roxxcalibur, but now the NWOBHM tribute band is back on the silver disk. Their third album, "Gems of the NWOBHM“ is definitely no obscurity for people in the know. Even though the majority of worldwide metal fans may not be familiar with all of the selected songs in their original form, it remains an incredibly good metal CD, which, although it has the spirit of the early Eighties within it, is still made for the here and now. Most of the songs are rarities to say the least and were, in their original form, often poorly produced or their interpretation was lacking. Roxxcalibur will catapult these tracks into the year 2015 and show them in an entirely new light, without having to drastically change the arrangements. The production of the album forms a perfect bridge between "old school" and modern days, as it is not orientated towards the rumbles and clatter of so many originals, but leans more towards the great albums of the Eighties. Eroc, known not only for his role as drummer of the Krautrock legends Grobschnitt but also as studio man for his remastering of classics of the Sixties and Seventies, gave this album the final polish.

Think big - that is and always was the idea behind Roxxcalibur - so they again added cover artwork by Rodney Matthews, known not only for his work with NWOBHM such as Praying Mantis. The author and NWOBHM expert John Tucker ("The Story of Neat Records", "Suzie Smiled" etc.) is responsible for liner notes. Purchasers of the physical version of this entirely agreeable work will be rewarded with a CD-only bonus track "Rip Off“.

Roxxcalibur's work has an effect on the scene in general. There were a lot of band reunions after their songs had been heard on one of Roxxcalibur's two albums. Quartz, Jameson Raid and Sparta are just three of them enjoying a renaissance. Other original bands came back into the spotlight thanks to Roxxcalibur, which resulted in re-releases of their old LPs as CDs or vinyl. Close friendships were formed with many NWOBHM bands and the Roxxies regularly receive messages with suggestions of "Why don't you record one of our songs?". The tribute band Roxxcalibur has become a firm part of the genuine NWOBHM scene - a scene which has been revived to be enjoyed today!

about

Roxxcalibur Gimbsheim, Germany

Being referred to as "Keepers of the Grail of the NWOBHM" in the new millennium is almost as good as being knighted by Her Majesty the Queen. When ROXXCALIBUR (from the notable compilation "Roxcalibur") released their debut album, "NWOBHM For Muthas" in 2009, nobody could have dreamed that the band, which began as a simple project, would give the NWOBHM a face on its 30th anniversary. ... more
